AMICA is a smart toy designed to aid children on the autism spectrum in learning facial expressions, developing their emotional understanding and social independence. Background research highlighted a communication barrier is often experienced between the parent and child which causes a strain on their relationship. Taking this into consideration the user experience of AMICA looks to integrate both child and parent through a fun and unique approach.
Visual stimulation is provided through the mood lighting feature which aims to evoke a relaxing mind-set when the child finds themselves in a stressful situation. The magnetic feet are available in a range of colours and textures which offer sensory interaction and personalisation in harmony. Inspiration has been taken from well known therapy techniques including ABA and TEACHH to provide the parent with a range of support and analysis tools to help grow their understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder.
